The apex court set aside an order passed in March by a special CBI trial court in Mumbai which had refused to accept as security the plot that houses the 31-storey tower caught in dispute over flat allotments and environmental clearance.
The CBI had frozen the society's accounts in 2011. In 2015, the society applied before the special CBI court to defreeze its account.
In January 2018, the SC allowed the defreezing, but on March 1, the CBI court refused to accept the property as surety.
The SC said given that its order to defreeze was already in existence and since the society had paid for the land, it should be accepted as security and the account defrozen.
