Exploring the psychological and emotional complexities of a couple engaged in extra marital relationship, the play ‘Dusra Aadmi, Dusri Aurat’ was staged at Bharat Bhavan. The play marked the fifth day of Haryana Mahotsav on Tuesday.

Written by Vibha Rani, and directed by Ravi Mohan Ras the play was performed by The Ras Kala Manch, Safidon. The play highlights some explosive truths about the marital life, especially when stagnation and monotony hits a happy relationship.

The play revolved around lives of a corporate executive, Sambhav Singh, played by director Ravi Mohan, and Shoma Das, played by Madhudeep Singh. Monotony creeps into their married lives. But the loneliness pervading their minds despite hectic life schedules inspires both of them to seek solace through personal interactions.

Shoma moves to Mumbai for a job in a private company. There she meets Sambhav, her colleague. Dissatisfied with their respective lives, they seek emotional satisfaction and develop physical relationships. Both are married and have their own families. Still they continue their relationship finding it more interesting than their respective marriages.

Gradually, Shoma realizes that she is ‘just-another-woman’ for Sambhav. This bothers her a lot and she becomes hysterical. Sambhav also gets fed up from her behaviour. In the end, Shoma takes a leave from office for a month and gets back to her own life, where there is no Sambhav. She owns her own responsibilities and her daughter and finds it satisfactory. She sees a friend in Sambhav.

The play operated at different levels, bringing into focus the social responsibility of a family and family traditions and the sacred institution of marriage. The play offered a close analysis of situations and factors leading to differences of opinion and breaking up of relations.
