Shiradi Ghatwill be opened for heavy vehicles from Thursday morning.
It was opened for light vehicles in July second week after being closed for concreting from January 15, 2018. Heavy vehicles including buses were not allowed since many safety works were pending.
With 95% of the work now complete as per Sharfuddin Ahmed, Director of Ocean Construction, the contractor, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has decided to open it for heavy vehicles too.
Opening was also necessary as portions of Mani-Mysuru Sampaje Ghat, the alternative route for heavy vehicles, have been sinking, Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil told The Hindu. He would issue orders by this evening, Mr. Senthil added.
