Maths play house at New English School

PUNE: The New English School on Tilak road has started a Maths play house in order to inculcate activity-based teaching among its students. The concept was initiated by school officials Nagesh Mone and Manohar Railkar. The play house was inaugurated recently by principal of Sir Parshurambhai College, Dilip Sheth.

A statement issued by the school stated that the inauguration programme began with a welcome song sung by Gaurangi Kanoje while guests were introduced by Swati Jajjal. The programme was presided over by Mone.

Mone explained the concept of Maths play house and also informed how the mathematical concepts were best explained to children through activities. Railkar said in the statement that, mathematics played an important role in life. He also explained to students on why learning maths was important and also the usefulness of learning tables among others.

Sheth said in the statement, "Through the maths playhouse, the fundamental concepts of maths will be strengthened among children. It is good to see the various projects that students have done using mathematical concepts."

The school management was of the opinion that due to this play house, the fear of maths would no longer be there. Vinay Acharya, head of mathematics at Fergusson College was also present for the inauguration who also explained to students the importance of maths in life.
