Ground Effect Brewing Company of Hudson is scheduled to make its debut Aug. 11, Mayflower Brewing has a new German-style beer inspired by a four-legged friend, and local breweries are concocting beers inspired by the art at the Peabody Essex Museum.

A new MetroWest brewery is set to make its debut at the 2018 Spirit of Hudson Brewfest this month.

Ground Effect Brewing Company, 312 Main St., Hudson, is set to debut its beers at the Aug. 11 festival. The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hudson-Concord Elks Pavilion, 99 Park St., Hudson.

Along with Ground Effect, there are several other Massachusetts breweries participating, including Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers of Framingham, Battle Road Brewing Company of Maynard, Cold Harbor Brewing of Westborough, Start Line Brewing Company of Hopkinton, and Greater Good Imperial Brewing Company, 3 Cross Fermentation Coop and Wormtown, all of Worcester.

Several non-local breweries are also scheduled to participate, including Allagash Brewing Company of Maine, Boulevard Brewing Company of Missouri and Weyerbacher Brewing Company of Pennsylvania.

There will also be cider, sparkling hard seltzer and canned cocktails for non-beer lovers.

Participating restaurants include Chill Kitchen & Bar and Welly’s Restaurant, both of Marlborough, and the Horseshoe Pub and Rail Trail Flatbread Company of Hudson.

The event is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Hudson and Nashoba Valley. The event has raised more than $170,000 throughout the past six years, and the money is donated to organizations and projects throughout Hudson and surrounding communities. Past beneficiaries have included River Edge Arts Alliance, Stop Hunger Now and the Miles & Smiles Walk.

General admission tickets are $40. Designated driver tickets are $15. VIP tickets are $60, and include an hour early entry, a free T-shirt, a pretzel necklace and special beer samples. Tickets are available at https://tickets.beerfests.com/event/SpiritofHudsonFoodBrewfest/listing.

 

It's a doggone helles lager

In other beer news, Mayflower Brewing Company of Plymouth has announced the release of its newest beer, OttoBahn.

OttoBahn is a German-style helles lager, brewed with Pilsner, Vienna and Munich malts along with Tettnang and Hallertau hops.

The beer is brewed in honor of head brewer Ryan Gwozdz’s dog, Otto, who is a frequent sight at the Mayflower brewery.

OttoBahn is available in four-packs of 16-ounce cans, and should be hitting stores in the next few days.

 

Brewing museum-quality beers

And finally, the Peabody-Essex Museum in Salem will be hosting Brewing PEM on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m., outdoors on the Axelrod Walkway at the museum, 161 Essex St.

The event will feature beers and ciders that were inspired by the art and cultural collection of the Peabody-Essex Museum. The PEM is the nation's oldest continuously operating museum, and is  well-known for its maritime art and artifacts as well as its Asian, American, African and Oceanic art and cultural objects.

Participating breweries and cideries are Bent Water Brewing Company of Lynn, Cape Ann Brewing Company of Gloucester, Far from the Tree Cider from Salem and Notch Brewing of Salem.

Tickets will get you one drink from each participating brewery, as well as light food and music. The event is for adults 21 and older.
