Ghaziabad: The
GDA demolished 10
illegal buildings in the city on Wednesday, the first day of a four-day campaign to bring down structures constructed without approval. “On the first day of our
demolition drive, we managed to bring down 10 illegal buildings across six police stations in the city,” said V K Singh, OSD at the GDA.
The areas where demolitions were carried out are Masuri, Kavinagar, Vijay Nagar, Indirapuram, Sahibabad and Loni. GDA vice-chairperson Ritu Maheshwari said, “During the drive on Wednesday, an illegal building in Aakash Nagar could not be demolished fully. So, we fell short of our target. We have added two areas on our list for the first phase of the drive. These are areas under Kotwali and Link Road police stations.”
The GDA has set a target to demolish 253 buildings in the first leg of its drive across the city. The drive will continue till August 4 and resume for 14 days from August 13, barring leaves and holidays. Over 450 buildings have been identified for demolition through the month. The GDA on Wednesday also sealed 11 illegal and dilapidated buildings, taking the total to 399.
