Tribal woman suffers miscarriage after being cried in ‘doli’; probe ordered

Parvatipuram ITDA PO G. Lakshmi Sha has ordered an inquiry into the miscarriage and critical condition of a tribal woman, Tamarakonda Jindammi, who faced an ordeal to get treatment and save her pregnancy, on Monday.

Following a directive from the National Human Rights Commission, the official assured to respond after getting the preliminary inquiry report and medical report from the Parvatipuram area hospital, where the woman was being treated after suffering a miscarriage in the fifth month of her pregnancy. According to locals, the woman was carried in a “doli” for 12 km from the hilly area, Sirivaram, to Duggeru sub-centre, from where she was shifted to the area hospital in an ambulance.

The lack of road network put her family members to a lot of hardship.

With a painful journey for longer period, she lost the baby, although her condition was stable. NHRC authorities felt that lack of road network and ambulance facility were leading to neo-natal and pre-natal deaths during pregnancy and deliveries.

Mr. Sha said all PHC had been working round the clock. He said 450 roads would be laid soon to improve connectivity to remote tribal areas.

District Medical and Health Officer Vijayalakshmi said best medical aid was being provided to Jindammi.
