Nagpur: Wednesday evening saw music enthusiasts making their way to Vidarbha Hindi Sahitya Sangh to relive the golden era of Bollywood music in a programme titled ‘Yaadein Rafi’, organized by Kalasrushti Bahuddeshiya Sanstha.
Immortal melodies of the legendary playback singer Mohd Rafi were sung during the musical programme to remember him on his 38th death anniversary. The enthusiasm, spirit and dedication of singers in the troupe was the main highlight as almost everyone of them were above 60 years of age.

79-year-old Mona Verma was the eldest in the lot and won hearts with her mesmerizing rendition of ‘Suhani raat dhal chuki’. She completed her song with sincerity and received a thunderous applause.

Philip Jaiswal set up a foot tapping atmosphere with his lively performance on ‘Baar baar dekho’ from ‘China Town’ and reminded the playful gestures of the charming Shammi Kapoor.

Sangha Chaure made the audience sway and hum along as she wove magic with her romantic number ‘Tere mere sapne’.

The playlist comprised some heart-wrenching numbers like ‘Waadiyaan mera daman’, ‘Khuda bhi aasman se’, ‘Tujhko pukare mera yaar’, ‘Jhilmil sitaro ka aangan hoga’ and peppy ones like ‘Chaahe mujhe koi junglee kahe’, ‘Achha ji main haari piya maan jao’, ‘Dil tera deewana hai sanam’ and ‘Aaj kaal tere mere pyarke charche har juban paar’.

Mansi Mukherjee kept the audience engrossed with her engaging tactics.

Kalasrushti Sanstha was founded in 2003 by singer Herschelle Thomas and his wife Lalita with the aim of imparting knowledge of music to senior citizens. Around 20 of their students showcased their talent through solo and duet performances.

Speaking about the theme, Lalita said, “There is only one Mohd Rafi and there can never be anyone like him. He has a special place in the hearts of music lovers and we look up to him.”
