Lenovo claims it will be the first to launch 'most-powerful' 5G Android smartphone

NEW DELHI: The implementation of 5G technology is gaining momentum and smartphone makers are now focusing on bringing their 5G devices to the market.
Taking the lead, Chinese smartphone maker Lenovo has confirmed that it will be the first smartphone maker to introduce a 5G smartphone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor.
Chang Cheng, vice president, Lenovo has confirmed that the company will be the first to bring a 5G-powered smartphone to the market. Recently, a leak surfaced online suggesting that Qualcomm has began the mass production of its chipset since June. If the rumour is true, then Lenovo might launch the smartphone by the end of this year or the beginning of next year.
Cheng revealed the news on Weibo that Lenovo will launch the first 5G smartphone and that too powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. However, the company has not yet announced any timeline for the launch.
It has also been reported that Qualcomm will be organising a Snapdragon Summit in December this year, where it might unveil the next generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. This means that Lenovo can come up with the first 5G smartphone by early next year.
On the other hand, companies like Huawei, Samsung, OnePlus and Oppo are also preparing for their 5G launches. Huawei showcased the world's first 5G modem ahead of MWC this year and the company also confirmed that it will release its first 5G phone in the third quarter of 2019.
Oppo, on the other hand, has partnered with Qualcomm in order to launch its 5G smartphones next year. Along with this, OnePlus is also planning to launch its 5G smartphone by mid-2019 and Samsung next flagship smartphone -- Galaxy S10 is expected to come with 5G technology.
