Mahatma Gandhi Chair set up in Calcutta University

KOLKATA: A letter has been sent by the state government to the Calcutta University vice-chancellor Sonali Chakraborty Bandopadhyay to create the Mahatma Gandhi Chair professor. The letter was placed before the syndicate on Monday.

In the letter it has been mentioned that a committee has been set up by the state government to celebrate the 150 birth centenary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. The letter states that the government will celebrate the occasion in a befitting manner. A state level committee under CM has taken the decision to commemorate the birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi in the state.

"A chair will be created to enable eminent scholar on Mahatma Gandhi to teach and conduct research on Mahatma Gandhi. The Gandhian Study Center, in CU at Alipore campus has been told to take up research projects and other academic activities related to Gandhiji. The centre's publication called Gandhi in Bengal will be taken up for translation into Bengali. University will publish My Autobiography - by Mahatma Gandhi in Santhali," said the VC.
