The CPI(M) today demanded that all the complaints regarding non-inclusion in Assam's National Register of Citizens (NRC) must be thoroughly examined and no Indian should be excluded from the list.
In a statement, the Left party also accused BJP president Amit Shah of causing "widespread apprehension" among the people on the NRC issue.
"All the complaints regarding non-inclusion must be thoroughly and seriously examined and corrected. The time limit for claims on inclusion of names must be extended to allow people to file their complaints. Only then the final NRC should be published. No Indian should be excluded," the statement said.
Pointing out that a large number of women have been left out despite the fact that the Supreme Court declared panchayat certificate as a valid document, the party alleged that there were a lot of anomalies in the preparation of the draft.
In some cases, ration cards, as support document have been reportedly rejected and "strangely", in a single family, some members are included while others are excluded, the party said.
The CPI(M) also appealed to the people to maintain peace and tranquillity.
