Youth held for blackmailing bizman

The Khandagiri police on Tuesday arrested a youth for allegedly extorting money from a businessman by blackmailing him with an obscene video on social media.

The accused identified as Ananta Maharana was blackmailing the businessman of Badagada area here for money by threatening him to upload a video of his intimate moment with a woman on social media platforms.

Sources said the accused had already extorted Rs 2 lakh from the businessman and was further blackmailing him to pay another Rs 3 lakh.

City DCP Anup Sahu said, “A case has been registered at the Khandagiri police station in this regard. The accused was blackmailing the businessman after capturing a video of his private moment with a woman. Role of the woman in the incident would also be brought under the purview of investigation. Action will be taken against her if we get any evidence.”

The accused was forwarded to court, he added.
