The man, Prabhakaran (27) of Perungalathur, arrested by Neelankarai police for theft cases and was lodged in jail. He was being taken to Alandur court for producing him as accused in another theft case in Madipakkam when he tried to kill himself by slashing his neck using a sharp object in the court premise. He was taken to hospital and later produced before the magistrate. 

Prabhakaran was remanded till August 14 by the court. Police suspect that he could have tried to end his life after he found the police were booking him under yet another case.
