Stormwater infrastructure has to be made efficient to prevent waterlogging: IIT Delhi

To prevent in Delhi, the infrastructure has to be made efficient for which it is necessary to apply corrective measures to the faulty system, IIT today recommended.

To reduce flooding conditions in various parts of the city, the team from IIT Delhi noted that the infrastructure has to be made efficient.

"So, it is pertinent to apply corrective measures to the faulty infrastructure, and introduce low-cost flood preventing measures such as rejuvenation of bodies, rainwater harvesting using parks and low impact development options," it said.

"Further, the solid waste and sewage has to be managed in such a way that they do not interfere with drainage," the report noted.

The report states that Delhi has three major basins, namely, Najafgarh, Barapullah and Trans-Yamuna.
