Congress condemns Mamata Banerjee's 'civil war' remark

Launching a scathing attack on for criticising Assam's Register of Citizens (NRC) final draft, Chief on Wednesday said that the West Bengal should not provoke for a civil war.

Speaking to ANI, Bora said, "being the should not provoke for a civil war, we condemn this statement. It will have no impact on as it is absolutely peaceful there."

Echoing similar views, for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju dubbed the West Bengal Chief Minister's remark on civil war as 'condemnable'.

"It is the duty of the CM to maintain law and order in the state and not incite violence. Her remark on civil war is condemnable," he said.

After the release of Register of Citizens (NRC) final draft which missed out the names of nearly four million people, Banerjee gave a stern warning to the that the draft list would divide the people and create a civil war-like situation in the country.

The draft list, which was released on Monday, left out nearly 40 lakh people in Assam, incorporating names of 2.89 crore people out of 3.29 crore applicants. The list was updated for the first time since 1951, to account for illegal migration from nearby
