Citizenship Bill: hOUSE paNEL gets more time

New Delhi: A joint committee of both Houses of Parliament, examining the Citizenship Amendment Bill, was on Tuesday granted more time to submit its report. The committee was given time till the first day of the last week of the Winter Session to submit its report. Generally, the Winter Session of Parliament begins in November. The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 was introduced in the Lok Sabha to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955.

Vijay Thakur Singh to be new Secy East in MEA

New Delhi: India’s envoy to Ireland Vijay Thakur Singh was on Tuesday named Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs. Singh is a 1985 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service. She will take over as officer on special duty in the MEA with effect from September 15. Singh, currently Ambassador in Dublin, will take over as Secretary (East), MEA, with effect from October 1 on superannuation of Preeti Saran on September 30.

34 cases of sedition under trial: Govt

New Delhi: As many as 34 cases of sedition were under trial in different parts of the country, while the accused in one such case were convicted in 2016, Union Minister Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said on Tuesday.
