Property worth Rs 12 cr retrieved, 8 people arrested

In different cases of alleged land in the city, police have retrieved property worth Rs 12 crore and arrested eight people.

This included retrieval of a 12,000 square feet property at nearby Sholinganallur, where the accused "grabbed" the land using forged documents and impersonating the original owner, police said.

This property was valued at Rs five crore, they added.

Similarly, a 9600 sq.ft. property grabbed by some people at Pallikkaranai using faked documents was retrieved following a complaint from the land owner, they said.

In another case, some people used a similar modus operandi and 'grabbed' 3600 sq.ft of land at Pallikkaranai.

Later, they pledged the property documents with a public sector bank at T Nagar for a sum of Rs 3.5 crore, police said.

Overall, land valued at Rs 12.5 crore grabbed by the accused was retrieved from them and eight people were arrested in connection with the cases, police said.

All of them were produced before a special court dealing with land cases and later lodged in prison, police added.
