Karnataka: UKJS stresses for opinion on separate state

HUBBALLI: The Uttara Karnataka Janashakti Sena (UKJS) has pressed for seeking commoners’ opinion on separate statehood for the north Karnataka region and has differed with way of calling for bandh on August 2.
Speaking to reporters in Hubballi on Tuesday, S Shankaranna, the founder president of UKJS, said that organisations that have called for bandh, have not consulted many other organisations and even commoners. There should be an open debate and compilation of opinions. Current, call for the bandh is motivated by some politicians who have been involved in selfishness politics from decades, he alleged.

He pointed that no politician has put sincere efforts to complete Upper Krishna Project and none tried to resolve the Mahadayi river issue.

"Now, politicians irrespective of party affiliation, are mute on police excess on women, aged persons, children occurred in Navalgund taluk. Though many innocent farmers are wandering to courts over Mahadayi cases, no elected representative has shown concern in this regard," he added.

Mentioning instance of roads in Hubballi-Dharwad, he alleged that politicians like Vinay Kulkarni, Jagadish Shettar, Pralhad Joshi have failed to complete BRTS in the past 6 years.

"They are busy in claiming credit for bringing such projects. When we ask about completion, they pass the buck on officials. As people are feared by Congress’ rowdism, they supported BJP just because of Modi. Now BJP is playing drama over NK issue by pushing Sriramulu first and later by patching up by B S Yedyurappa," he said.

He appealed NK commoners to be patient until there is a common opinion over separate statehood.
