Newly appointed BJP State president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai has said that the party will adopt a twin strategy in the elections by holding its core Hindutva ideology as well as expanding the BJP-led NDA in the State.
At the outset he would take steps to solve the issues with the disgruntled Bharat Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) led by Thushar Vellappally, son of SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan, that had impacted the bypolls to the Chennagur where he was a candidate.
Mr. Pillai, who is on a second stint as State president, the earlier one during 2003- 2006, told the media on Tuesday that his party national leadership had spelled out a clear cut agenda for the Kerala unit for the next three years, including the coming Lok Sabha polls in 2019, three-tier local body polls in 2020 and Assembly polls in 2121.
The party would explore all possibilities to induct breakaway factions from the Congress party and also the discontented constituents in both the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front and the Congress-led United Democratic Front.
“Possibly some Congress leaders would come out of their party and float a new party so as to become a part of the NDA coalition. Both the coalitions have lost their souls. But we are open to alliance irrespective of politics, religion or community,” he said, adding that the BJP was an inclusive party.
However, the party had planned to focus to one important aspect such as countering the propaganda of parties that the BJP was against the minorities.
Dismissing reports that appeared in a section of the media that he lobbied for the post and that his appointment was an interim one, Mr. Pillai said the Sangh Parivar organisations took a favourable stand on his nomination and considered many factors to shoulder this responsibility.
