CHENNAI: DMK president M
Karunanidhi has responded well to medical management and his vital signs have gradually normalised, said a medical bulletin issued by
Kauvery Hospital on Tuesday evening.
However, it said the 94-year-old former
Tamil Nadu chief minister may require a longer period of hospitalisation due to age-related overall decline in general health, altered liver function and haematological parameters.
The release, signed by executive director Dr Aravindan Selvaraj, said, “He continues to maintain his vital signs with active medical support.”
Karunanidhi was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Saturday with drop in blood pressure. He was resuscitated and stabilised in the intensive care unit by a team of doctors.
On Sunday, there was a “transient setback” in his clinical condition due to difficulty in breathing. “He responded well to medical management and his vital signs have gradually normalised,” the bulletin said.
On Tuesday afternoon, Congress president
Rahul Gandhi met Karunanidhi in the ICU. After visiting him, Rahul told reporters that the DMK chief was doing well. “He is a very tough man like the people of Tamil Nadu. His health condition is stable. He is the spirit of Tamil Nadu.”
