The popular Shamirpet lake abutting Hyderabad-Karimnagar Rajiv Rahadari and its surroundings will be developed as a tourist attraction.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday directed officials here to formulate a plan within a month to develop Shamirpet as a recreation and tourist centre. He said measures would be taken to ensure that the lake has water throughout the year, to provide a pleasant ambience to the visitors.
The meeting was attended by Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director Manohar and CMO Special Secretary Bhupal Reddy among others.
The Kondapochamma reservoir that will be built as part of Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project will supply water to the lake. Water to the Baswapur reservoir would be released through the Shamirpet tank canal, he said.
As Shamirpet is close to Hyderabad, a good flow of tourists is anticipated and therefore, amenities like cottages should be constructed to provide accommodation for the tourists, it was decided.
Lake shore development, landscaping and flower gardens should be developed alongside the lake and the canals. The main highway and the area around the tank bed should also be beautified, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao said.
