BENGALURU: Air Marshal
SRK Nair, Air Officer Command-in-Chief, Training Command who had taken over the Command of Training Command on 01 September 2015 has superannuated on Tuesday after 38 years and 02 months of service in Indian Air Force. The
Air Marshal placed a wreath at the War Memorial at Training Command and he was presented with an impressive guard of honour before handing over his appointment. A formal send off was organised by all the personnel of Training Command.
Air Marshal SRK Nair was commissioned in the transport stream of the Indian Air Force in June 1980. A Qualified Flying Instructor and an Air Force Examiner, the Air Marshal has a rich and varied flying experience of over 7000 hrs in various transport and trainer aircraft. Air Marshal SRK Nair belongs to Trivandrum and did his schooling from Loyola School, Trivandrum. He is an alumnus of
National Defence Academy, Khadakwasala and National Defence College, New Delhi.
During his illustrious service career spanning over four decades, the Air Marshal has held various important Command and staff appointments, which include Chief Operations Officer of a Transport Base, Commanding Officer of strategic Air lift Squadron, Director Operations (Transport) at Air Headquarters, Air Officer Commanding of Air Force Station Chandigarh, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Personnel Airmen and Civilians) and Assistant Chief of Air Staff Operations (Transport & Helicopter) at Air Headquarters. He was Senior Air Staff Officer of Headquarters Training Command prior to taking up the coveted appointment as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief.
He has taken active part and flown extensively towards Op Pawan (SriLanka), Op Cactus (Maldives), Op Parakram and Op Safed Sagar (Kargil). He has the unique distinctions of being selected to lead the first Indian contingent for Air borne exercises to three different countries. During the exercise at USA, he pioneered a flight on IL-76 to the
North Pole and back, the only Indian aircraft to do so, he also circum navigated the globe. He was instrumental in commencing operations both by An-32 and C-130 Hercules to ‘Daulat Beg Olde- in the India-China border the highest airstrip in the world and has himself landed in the An-32. The Air Marshal was at the helm of affairs for the difficult and much acclaimed disaster relief operations “Op Rahat” in Uttarakhand.
During his tenure as Air Officer Commander-in-Chief Training Command, he brought in many innovative changes to improve the quality of training of Indian Air Force personnel alongside improving the quality of life not only in Training Command Campus but in all the stations under Training Command, said defence sources in its press release.
