Dissatisfied with quality of service, Gurugram housing society RWA takes over maintenance from Unitech

The residents’ welfare association (RWA) of Harmony Apartments in Nirvana Country, in Sector 50, on Monday finalised a deal with developer Unitech Limited to takeover the maintenance of the society’s infrastructure facilities. The agreement will come into effect from Wednesday, August 1.

According to Sajal Gupta, secretary, Harmony Apartments’ RWA, residents are dissatisfied with the quality of infrastructure provided by the developer. “The roads are poor, power supply is erratic, stairwells are unclean and lifts don’t have the necessary safety features,” Gupta said.

In the light of these deficiencies, both Unitech and the RWA of Harmony Apartments came to a mutual agreement about three months ago that maintenance of these services would be taken over by the RWA. This, the RWA believed, would be in the best interests of the residents.

Starting August 1, the RWA will take responsibility of housekeeping, horticulture, and security services, known as ‘non-mandatory services’, which Unitech is not contractually obliged to provide. In the meantime, Unitech has committed to fixing issues of power and roads, which fall under the category of ‘mandatory services’, within the next two months, said Gupta. The terms of the agreement were signed on July 30.

“Once the mandatory infrastructure is put in place, the RWA will start maintaining that as well,” said Gupta. He also added that the district town and country planning (DTP) department had helped to broker the deal, after being approached by the RWA. A representative from Unitech refused to comment on the matter, while DTP officials did not respond to calls and texts for a comment.
