The 2019 Ford Ranger comes with refreshed styling, improved cabin amenities and updated oily bits, but also new technologies.

One of them, Blind Spot Information System with Trailer Coverage, is detailed by the Blue Oval in a new teaser video.

Said to be a “class exclusive”, the feature uses a radar mounted in the taillights of the pickup truck that monitors blind spots all the way to the back of the trailer. The presence of another vehicle in the blind spot of the trailer is thus signaled to the driver.

Offered at no extra cost on the XLT and Lariat trim levels, it can store up to three trailer profiles, including the selection of the trailer length, which tells the system how far back to provide the warnings.

Another novelty for the 2019 Ranger informs the person behind the wheel of oncoming vehicles when they’re backing out of a parking spot, and it’s part of the Blind Spot Information System.

Set to go on sale later this year, the all-new Ranger is offered in two different configurations, as a SuperCab or a SuperCrew. Depending on the chosen model, clients will be able to select between two styling packages and different features to improve its off-road credentials.

The equipment list includes items such as special shocks, underbody skid plates, an electronic-locking rear differential and a terrain management system with four different driving modes. Base models will have to make do with rear-wheel drive, whereas four-wheel drive will be optional.

The 2019 Ranger will be powered by the turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder that’s also found in the Mustang EcoBoost. It’s unknown what its output will be in this iteration, but in the muscle car it’s good for 310hp (314PS / 231kW) and 350lb-ft (474Nm) of torque.
