Canadian couple to adopt Jodhpur sisters

A family court in Jodhpur on Tuesday allowed a Canadian couple to adopt two orphaned Indian sisters. Both sisters are currently residing in the Navjeewan Sansthan in Jodhpur and studying in the English Medium School. This is the second case of adoption of a child by some foreigner in Jodhpur.

Five-year-old Radhika and her four-year-old sister Deepika were brought to the Navjeewan Sansthan about a year and a half ago after their mother [passed away. Rajendra Parihar, managing trustee of the Sansthan, said, that any single or foreign couple has to complete several formalities before adopting Indian children. All proceedings are carried out through Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) after conducting a thorough investigation of the interested person.

He said that the Canadian couple does not have any children of their own and wanted to adopt an Indian child. When they got information about Radhika and Deepika through CARA, they expressed the desire to adopt them. After CARA’s nod, an application was filed in the family court.

The court on Monday enquired about some basic information of the Canadian couple. PK Jain, presiding officer of family court, allowed the couple to adopt the girls on Tuesday. Parihar said that now since the permission of the family court has been sought, the birth certificates and passports of the girls will be prepared. He said that David, who is a Bancroft resident, is a carpenter by profession and his wife Violet Krahn runs a day care centre.

Another baby residing in the Navjeevan Institute, was recently adopted by a 45-year-old Swedish woman, Elin Kristin Eriksson.
