BMW Japan Sends Off Previous X5 With Limited Black And White Editions

BMW has just launched the fourth generation X5, which means that the previous generation is being phased out – and its Japanese arm decided to send it off with a limited edition aimed exclusively at the local market.

Building upon the xDrive35d M Sport model, it’s offered only in white or black. Pricing starts from 10,920,000 yen ($98,326) in the case of the former, and 11,013,000 yen ($99,164) for the latter.

Setting it apart from other X5s, besides the Alpine White or Black Sapphire exterior paintjob, are the blacked-out M Performance kidney grille and 20-inch alloy wheels with ‘M’ badging.

Inside, the limited edition X5s comes with black Dakota leather and revised aluminum trim, in addition to a long list of standard gear that includes sunroof and a Harman / Kardon premium sound system. The mid-sized luxury SUV also comes with special badges that features each unit’s serial number.

BMW Japan will only offer a total of 190 units: 110 Limited Black and 80 Limited White.

Performance wise, the xDrive35d goes from 0 to 100km/h (0-62mph) in 6.5 seconds and maxes out at 230km/h (143mph). Power comes from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine that pushes out 259PS (255hp / 190kW) and 560Nm (413lb-ft) of torque and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
