HYDERABAD: K Vijay Kumar, son of former principal secretary in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh K Bhaskar Rao, was arrested by Kukatpally police on Monday for allegedly threatening an official of the registrations department by posing as principal secretary to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Madhapur DCP A Venkateswara Rao said Rangareddy district registrar received a call on July 23 from an unknown number, asking him to talk to Principal Secretary to the CM. The caller also gave him the number of the principal secretary Narsinga Rao.
When the official called the number, he was told that one Shoban Babu will come with the documents related to a disputed land which is pending in the court and asked him to clear the file. Sensing foul play, the official crosschecked with the Principal Secretary’s office and found that the latter did not make any such calls. The official waited for Shoban Babu to come and when he came, he was handed over to police. Based on his confession, cops found Vijay Kumar was behind the fraud, but he was absconding. Based on a tip off, Kumar was nabbed on Monday and confessed to the crime.
Vijay Kumar, a former employee of Satyam Computers, was the one who called Rangareddy district registrar asking him to release land document, DCP said.
‘Vijay was earlier arrested for duping banks’
Inquiries revealed that Vijay Kumar had set his true caller ID as Narsinga Rao, due to which persons whom he called easily believed his claims.“He used the Principal Secretary’s name for his illegal businesses. He also collected huge sums as commission for making settlements in government offices. He is also accused of cheating banks by obtaining loans with forged documents. He also threatened tahsildars, revenue and HMDA officials claiming to be a relative of Principal Secretary,” the DCP said.
Vijay Kumar was earlier arrested by the CBI in Chennai in 2012 and was also arrested by Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Warangal police, the DCP said. While Vijay’s father passed away in 2018, both his younger brothers are in service. Vijay initially started his own business and started buying lands. But after one land deal turned to be fraudulent, he landed in a major crisis., police said.
