Two employees of a private firm were shot at and robbed of Rs 40 lakh they were carrying to deposit in a bank in northwest Delhi’s Wazirpur on Monday afternoon.

Police said the unidentified robbers rammed their car into the victim’s car on the Wazirpur flyover and started an argument in a bid to rob them. And when they stepped out, they shot at them and fled with the cash.

The two victims — Rajkumar Bhaseen (52) from north Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi and Tejpal from Mangolpuri – are out of danger.

“The victims were rushed to a hospital. They were said to be out of danger and their statements were recorded. They work for a firm headquartered in Delhi’s Nangloi. They said they were carrying the cash in an i20 car to deposit it at a bank in Wazirpur,” said a police officer, not authorised to speak to the media.

Around 12.37 pm, the police control room received a call that two men had sustained bullet injuries, senior police officers said.

The police reached the spot and found that unidentified men had shot at the two men and fled with a bag, which the victims said contained Rs 40 lakh in cash.

“The victims said the robbers intercepted their car by ramming their Swift into their i20. Assuming it to be a normal accident, soon as they duo stepped out of their car, the men shot both of them. The accused then picked up the cash bag from i20 car and sped away,” the officer said.

Deputy commissioner of police (northwest), Aslam Khan said a case of robbery under section 392 and attempt to murder under section 307 had been registered.

“We have deployed teams who are tracing the accused. CCTV footage at the spot is being checked to identify the vehicle. The people who knew Tejpal and Rajkumar were carrying money were being questioned,” Khan said.
