Vikram Vedha-fame composer Sam CS, who has more than half a dozen films lined up for release, is also composing the tunes for the gangster film Vanjagar Ulagam. The latest update is that one of the songs in the film is rendered by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Speaking about it, Sam says, “I’ve been a fan of Yuvan since I was young. I had him in my mind when I composed this song.

There’s a template in Tamil cinema for such love songs but we wanted to try something different. The music is completely live and not programmed. I composed and showed it to Yuvan, and he was impressed with it.”

Sam adds that Vanjagar Ulagam will be a different gangster film from what we’ve seen till date and the music too will be quite new. “To support this film musically, we’ve tried different genres. The first track that got released, Kannanin Leelai, is Carnatic dubstep. The one sung by Yuvan is a Blues melody. He liked the song and even told me that he’s following my work. It was such a pleasure to hear that from someone I look up to.”

The song, which Sam tells us was recorded at 3 am (contrary to his custom of recording earlier in the day), will be out on August 1. The film is expected to be released later in the same month.
