Incessant rainfall since past couple of days across Bokaro district increased the water level into Tenughat Dam and Damodar River. At least 17,000 cusec of water has been released from Tenughat Dam as the water level increases in the reservoir on Sunday.

Out of ten, four radial gates of the dam were opened for two meters and water was released from the dam, informed Pankaj Kumar the nodal officer of flood Control Unit of Tenughat Dam.

The District Administration issued a warning not to go into the river as sudden release is also expected from the reservoir any time. “The capacity of the reservoir of Tenughat Dam is to hold the water level at a maximum of 824 feet but now the water level has rose up to 852.80 feet,” added the official.

A special directive of ‘24-hours alert’ has been issued to the concerned officials, staffs and divers, informed the official. Heavy downpour increased the water level into the Damodar River too. “The Damodar is flowing on its peak level,” added the official adding about the threat of flood looming large.
