The accused were identified as M Abdul Imthiyas (21) of Alandur and J Jen Ranjith Badra (27) of Meenambakkam, employees of a hotel in Pallavaram. The police also launched a hunt to arrest Gopi, who fled the spot. 

The incident happened when the police were conducting a vehicle check on GST Road, in the wee hours of Saturday. “The police stopped the trio who were overspeeding on their two-wheeler,” the police said. The accused who were in an inebriated condition refused to produce the documents for the vehicle. After a heated argument, they attacked head constable Suresh Selvakumar attached to Pallavaram police station. 

The police chased them and arrested Abdul and Ranjith. The arrested persons were remanded in judicial custody.
