Gujarat CM urges people to plant trees

In view of achieving target of planting 10 crore saplings across the State, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani appealed people to contribute in the State Government’s initiative by planting trees in their surroundings.

Speaking after worshiping Atal Sarovar and planting trees surrounding the lake in his hometown Rajkot, he said that in last May, the biggest water conservation campaign of India ‘Sujalam Sufalam Jalsanchay Abhiyan’ (SSJA) was taken on hand with the collaboration of people which increased water storage capacity. Similarly, a comprehensive programme of planting tree would be conducted in the month of August to make Gujarat green, said the Chief Minister.

Plantation will be done in various areas including the bank areas of lake. This year Gujarat expresses desire to plant 10 crore trees.  Currently Gujarat is considered as power surplus State, he said adding that now the State Government is working towards making Gujarat water surplus State.

The State Government has  a five-year-plan for water. Government is moving forward in the direction to make water crisis as the past of Gujarat. Government has set up plants at seven places including Jodiya, Dahej and Kutch to make sea water drinkable.

Rupani said that during the SSJA campaign about 18000 water accumulation works have been done and the water storage capacity has been increased by excavating 13 thousand million square meters of land.
