Smriti Mandhana had another surprise in store for her after her hard-hitting knock helped Western Storm register their second victory in the ongoing Kia Super League on Sunday.

The Indian women’s cricket team opener got to meet former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, one of the greatest Test batsmen of all time and someone Mandhana considers a role model.

Mandhana shared a picture of the two of them together on Instagram with the caption: “This just made my day. A big fan girl moment for me. Can’t express how glad and overwhelmed I am. This memory is going to stay with me forever.”

Mandhana grabbed plenty of attention at Taunton an unbeaten innings off 52 runs scored off just 19 balls. Her knock consisted of five boundaries and four sixes.

She equalled the record for the fastest half-century in Women’s T20s, bringing up her fifty in 18 balls.

Sangakkara, who was present at the ground when the innings took place, took to Twitter to praise Mandhana, calling her “brilliant to watch” and adding that she is a great ambassador for the game.
