CHANDIGARH: A man on a white colour Honda Activa scooter snatched a purse of the wife of a policeman in Sector 9 on Saturday night, promoting the police to suspect his hand in two other recent snatchings.

On July 19, a woman’s purse was snatched in Sector 22, while another woman’s mobile phone was snatched while she waiting for an autorickshaw near the Sector 37-40 light point on July 27. On both the occasions, the accused was on a white colour Honda Activa. Police suspect the crimes are the handiwork of one person and he is using a stolen vehicle. “It is very unlikely for a person to use a Honda Activa for a snatching. This because it does not accelerate as fast as motorcycles do. It seems the vehicle is a stolen one,” said police sources.

Even in the vandalism of 16 cars in sectors 37 and 40 in the early hours of July 27, two men were in a white colour Honda Activa. On Friday night, the snatcher targeted Jasbir Kaur, the wife of a constable and a resident of Sector 9. Kaur said she had gone to Sector 17 for some work and was returning home on foot. “As I reached near my house, a person riding a white colour Honda Activa approached me and snatched my purse,” she said. Her purse contained Rs 250 and documents. Police have CCTV footage of the suspect, but not the registration number of the vehicle.
