It was an honest statement, says Botcha Satyanarayana

Reacting bitterly to YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s comment that the Kapu reservations were not possible, TDP president Kimidi Kala Venkat Rao on Sunday said Mr. Jagan had utterly failed in mounting pressure on the Centre on the issue. It was not right on the part of Mr. Jagan to spew venom against the Kapus. Chief Minister and TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu devoted all his life for the uplift of all castes and was also trying to do justice to the Kapus, he said.

The TDP leader said the Assembly had adopted a resolution urging the Centre to take steps to extend the quota to the Kapus without impacting BC reservations, he recalled.

Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana, at Nellore, said the true colours of Mr. Jagan were exposed. He cannot question and oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and, hence, was saying the reservations were not possible. He had a low opinion of the Kapus and the Balijas.

The Kapu Reservation Bill would have been passed had the Centre-State relations were good, he said.

YSR Congress leader Botcha Satyanarayana said the YSRC was not against the reservations. Mr. Jagan said he could not give the promise as the reservations exceeding 50% had to be cleared by the Centre. Saying he could get it done was tantamount to misleading the people, he said.
