Two persons drown in Nagaland

Two persons drowned and three were feared dead in district today while several roads in were cut off due to landslides triggered by incessant rains, officials said.

The search and rescue teams has retrieved the body of two from Ahunato in district while search for the other three is on, he said.

In Kohima one person drowned yesterday in river current at Dzucharu, Kohima deputy commissioner, Rajesh Soundarajan said.

He said 25 houses have been damaged in heavy rains in the district.

Meanwhile, said several major roads in the state were cut off due to landslides triggered by incessant rain during the past several days.

"Inclement weather condition in the state during past few weeks have been creating havoc and lots of damage of roads, private and government properties are reported from various places," he said while addressing a press conference here.

He said that all the technical officers in and around Kohima will be put to assigned duties to clear all the roads. Secondly, the sinking portion of the various roads, including the National Highway-2 would also be addressed immediately.

The appealed to the people not to resort to hoarding as we have adequate stock of all essential commodities.

The (BRO) said that NH-702 connecting Tuensang-Mon districts have been cut off by a massive landslide which washed away a portion of the road.

The NH-29 between Kohima-Pfutsero was cut off at Mesulumi village with water washing away the diversion road, they said.
