Indore: Woman delivers baby at home as doctors refuse to admit her excusing JDA strike

Indore: Poor state of affairs in the state-run medical facility, Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital, once again came to fore when a pregnant woman was not admitted by the hospital staff on Saturday, excusing junior doctors’ strike.

The woman had delivered a baby girl at her residence and the infant couldn’t survive even 24 hours. Anjum Sohaib Khan, a resident of Khajrana Palace, reached the hospital with minor labour pain in the afternoon on Saturday but the doctors told her to come after 15 days.

“We reached the hospital around 2 pm and requested the duty doctors to admit her as she was experiencing labour pain,” Anjum’s relative Tabrez said. He alleged that the duty doctors didn’t check her and asked her to come after 15 days as there were no chances of delivery.

“We requested them to admit the patient but they excused that the junior doctors were on strike and the delivery would not be performed. Later, we returned home and Anjum delivered a baby girl there. The delivery was performed with the help of family members and relatives,” Tabrez added.

He said that they reached the hospital again on Saturday evening with the newborn as her conditions were deteriorating. She was admitted to SNCU in the hospital but she succumbed on Sunday noon. Alleging medical negligence by the hospital and doctors, the family members said that they would lodge a complaint with the Chief Minister.

“Government is responsible to provide facilities to poor patients at the time of strike in the hospital. We couldn’t afford private hospitals and reached the MYH but we lost our baby,” the family members added. Meanwhile, Superintendent of MY Hospital Dr VS Pal was not available for comment.
