Faraday Future Builds First Body-In-White For FF 91, Says Deliveries On Track For December

Faraday Future has experienced its fair share of struggles in the past year, but the company has completed the first body-in-white for the FF 91 ahead of schedule.

Built at the company’s new production facility in California, the body-in-white is an important accomplishment for the beleaguered automaker which has faced financial problemsan exodus of senior employees and a failed attempt to build a massive factory in Nevada. While the company avoided touching on these topics, Faraday Future CEO YT Jia said “This is one of many big milestones ahead for FF as we enter the final stage in introducing ‘our new species’, the FF 91 flagship.”

The accomplishment also paves the way for the FF 91 to go into production later this year. Furthermore, if everything goes according to plan, the first deliveries will begin in December.

Getting back to the body-in-white, Faraday Future says “several cutting-edge manufacturing technologies” have been used for its construction. It has more than 1,500 self-piercing rivets and utilizes “Flowform screw technology allowing an innovative uni-directional joining process not possible with conventional sheetmetal joining methods.”

Faraday Future hasn’t released details specifications about the FF 91, but Bozi Tatarevic recently uncovered a VIN decoder document that the company submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. As Jalopnik noted, the document suggests there will be five versions of FF 91 including a base model with two electric motors producing a combined output of 716 hp (534 kW / 726 PS). At the other end of the spectrum, there will be a range-topping variant with three electric motors and a combined output of 1074 hp (801 kW / 1089 PS).

While the model will only be offered with two different outputs, it appears there will be three different battery packs. The 716 hp (534 kW / 726 PS) version of the crossover will be offered with all three batteries, while the high-performance model will only be offered with the largest two. Tatarevic estimates they will have a capacity of approximately 86.7 kWh, 108.3 kWh and 130 kWh.
