Speaking at the National Conference on Delivering Quality Education on Sunday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia talked about the role of parents in creating a favourable learning environment.
The event, which also saw workshops on community and parental engagement, and on creating participatory schools, was held as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR).
“We need to learn to surrender to our kids,” said Mr. Sisodia, referring to the importance of treating children with respect. “We are also trying to think of ways to get people to stop referring to children as tu, either through a circular or some training programme.”
Mr. Sisodia also emphasised the need to pay attention to the entire environment of the child.
“We think children only learn what is told to them through textbooks but that is not the case. They learn from everywhere.”
He also commended the work of the DCPCR in “regulating society through actions and laws” over the previous decade.
