Nagpur: In a shocking case,
SNDL has issued electricity bill to a consumer without providing him a connection. TOI had sought SNDL’s comments on this matter on Sunday and the franchisee connected the consumer on Monday morning.
Avinash Tarpe, secretary of Maharshee Manohar Apartment, Wanjari Nagar, told TOI he had applied for a power connection over three months ago. Even though he paid the required charges, SNDL did not provide him with a connection. According to him, other consumers got connection within 15 days.
“I was running from pillar to post to get connection. I was shocked when I received a power bill of about Rs 200 about ten days. How can SNDL issue me a bill when I have not consumed a single unit,” Tarpe said.
SNDL spokesperson said the officer concerned had been issued a show cause notice for delay in providing connection. “We have taken this matter seriously and action will be taken against the engineer,” he added.
Builder Ashok Chandak charged that this was not an isolated case and SNDL had issued such bills to many consumers. “As the amount is small most consumers do not object. However, the franchisee has earned lakhs through this illegal practice,” he said.
