PANCHKULA: The district police have failed to set up a police station, check posts and install CCTV cameras at Haryana’s only hill station, Morni, which are also longpending demands of the residents here. The residents of Morni say that in the absence of such security measures, including cellular network, Morni has become a hideout for miscreants.

A TOI team visited the place and found that there was only one check post in the name of providing security to the residents and tourists. It was also learned that various guest houses, resorts and hotels here were running illegally and promoting flesh trade and drugs.

“If you get into trouble here, you will not have any option in the absence of poor infrastructure and cellular connectivity. Moreover, there are no CCTV cameras or check posts on the entire stretch,” the residents said.

Meanwhile, Panchkula deputy commissioner of police (DCP) R K Meena said a request would be made to the DGP’s office to set up a separate police station here. “Regular police patrolling from 1pm to11pm has already been started on the stretch,” the DCP said.

Morni, which is infamous for various heinous crimes, was recently in the news for alleged gang rape of a 21-year-old girl by over 40 persons in a private guest house.

In 2017, between May and November, four cases were registered in the area. Out of these, two are still a mystery for the police.

On November 8, 2017, Tanishq Bhasin, a 19-yearold resident of Sector 4, was found dead with a bullet wound on his forehead under mysterious circumstances near Berwala village on Morni road. A foreignmade pistol was recovered from the car that was locked from inside. The deceased was the son of a Punjab and Haryana high court advocate.

On May 11, 2017, Reena Pun, a teacher posted in Chandimandir Cantonment, was stabbed 28 times in her abdominal with a khukri. The teacher was found dead in her car. Her husband, an ex-Armyman, was questioned. The police are still groping in the dark to find the murderers.

In September 2017, dreaded gangster Sampat Nehra fired a gunshot in open at a private hookah bar in Morni. The gangster was late arrested by the Haryana police.

On November 19, 2017, a resident of Kurukshetra was shot dead with his two nephews and a niece, aged 11, 4 and 8. Their bodies were dumped in the forest area here. The accused was later arrested.
