Stating that DMK chief and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi is in good health, Communist Party of India State Secretary R. Mutharasan, has asked people not to believe rumors spread by irresponsible persons.
Addressing mediapersons here on Sunday, he said that he met Mr. Karunanidhi at hospital and he is well. Also, CPI leader D. Pandian is fine. “Both the leaders are expected to return home in a few days,” he added.
Mr. Mutharasan said that despite stiff opposition from the farmers against the Salem – Chennai greenway corridor project, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami is continuously lying that farmers are supporting the project, which is strongly condemned.
“Police forces are used to threaten the people who oppose the project. This did not happen even during the British rule,” he added. Urging the State Government to drop the project, he said human chain would be formed from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in five districts on August 6 in which farmers and members of various political parties would participate. “If the State Government refuses to drop the project, we will intensify our struggle against it,” he added.
Mr. Mutharasan said that due to poor planning by the State Government, five tmc water from Mettur Dam is entering the sea without being utilised. “If DMK is in power and Mr. Karunanidhi is the Chief Minister, it would not happen”, he added. He also demanded the resignation of Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for permitting the use of military helicopter for an individual who is not in government service. He also wanted Deputy Chief Minister O. Paneerselvam to resign from his post as a corruption case was registered against him.
