KOLKATA: The civic authorities have removed a number of open vats in Salt Lake, setting up waste compactor stations at different places.

Waste disposal has always been an area of concern for the Bidhannagar civic authorities, with heaps of garbage, abandoned household items and plastic waste have often been dumped along the road side corners, vacant plots and road dividers and boulevards. The civic authorities have been working to set up a special waste disposal mechanism in all the 41 wards of the corporation and also to introduce a zero-waste system where waste would be recycled.

The civic authorities have already taken an initiative on the zero waste system by having a discussion with a number of residential housing complex, encouraging them to set up their own waste recycling plant within their complexes.
