Six granted bail as CBI fails to file chargesheet

A special on Monday granted to six persons accused of abducting and murdering a school girl Navruna Chakravarty, after the investigating agency failed to file a chargesheet within 90 days, police said.

"The special in Muzaffarpur has granted to the six jailed accused on the ground that the CBI failed to file a chargesheet against them," a said.

In April this year, the (CBI) had arrested six persons in connection with the abduction and murder of Navruna. She was abducted from her home in Muzaffarpur in 2012.

In 2014, the CBI told her parents that she was killed soon after. The CBI officials told her parents that a DNA test has confirmed that a skeleton discovered near their house was hers.

Six persons including Shah Alam Shabbu, Brajesh Singh, Vikrant Shukla, Vimal Agrawal, and were arrested in the case by the CBI after they were interrogated for hours.

Navruna's parents repeatedly said property dealers had abducted her since they had refused to give up a prime piece of land in Muzaffarpur.

According to police officials, all the six arrested were associated with property deals and the CBI has described them as "bahubali, middlemen".

After an initial probe by the district police and the Investigation Department (CID) failed to achieve a breakthrough, the CBI was assigned the investigation on the direction of the in 2013.
