PUNE: Police arrested one person and detained his two minor accomplices for allegedly robbing seven different motorcyclists of cash and valuables at knife-point over the last few months in the Chakan industrial town, about 40km from Pune.
The police claimed to have recovered five stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle from their possession.
Preliminary police investigation revealed that trio would rob people for easy money to enjoy a lavish life. The police have identified the arrested suspect as Mahesh Pardeshi, a resident of Chakan. He is school dropout and has been jobless for the last few months.
Pardeshi lured the two minor accomplices on the pretext of making easy money and, together, they would target motorcyclists at desolate locations in the industrial township, police said.
Last week, the trio had accosted one person and robbed him of his debit card at knife-point. They forced the victim to accompany them to a nearby ATM center where they tried using his debit card but could not withdraw money as the victim had given them a wrong PIN number, police added.
"The trio then forced the victim into revealing the correct PIN number after assaulting him and withdrew money from his account. The victim had filed an FIR in this regard. On the basis of our inputs, we nabbed them on Saturday. While Pardeshi will be produced in the court, two minors will be sent to remand home," said inspector Dhanyakumar Godse of Chakan police station.
