3 from Vadodara drown in pond near Pavagadh

VADODARA: Three persons from the city drowned in the Vada Talav pond located near Champaner village on the foothills of Pavagadh in Panchmahal district. The deceased had left the city on Sunday afternoon.
The incident came to light on Monday afternoon when a floating body was spotted in the pond. Pavagadh police as well as the fire brigade were informed regarding the incident. When the teams rushed to fish out the body, they spotted two more and brought them out of the pond too.

The bodies were identified using various identity cards found on them. The victims included Tapan Shah (19), a resident of Raopura, Vaibhan Mandavkar (21), a resident of Salatwada, and Gajmal Devre (57), a resident of Navlakhi compound.

The relatives of the three persons were informed regarding the incident and were called to the Halol referral hospital where the bodies were kept. An autopsy was performed on the bodes at the hospital.

According to sources, the relatives told the police that they were trying to contact the deceased since Sunday night but were not able to get through. It came to light that they had left on a scooter from Devre’s roadside cabin from where he sold tobacco products.

While Devre sells tobacco products, Shah is a student of hotel management and Mandavkar was unemployed presently. The reason for their visiting Vada Talav without informing anyone is not known yet. It is believed that he three knew each other as Shah and Mandavkar used to frequent Devre’s cabin where they may have met.
