Sasikala counsel accompanies them

Lawyers representing the Justice A. Arumughaswamy Commission and V.K. Sasikala inspected the Apollo Hospital on Greams Road on Sunday evening.

The visit by the team of lawyers including S. Parthasarathy, counsel for the commission of inquiry looking into former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s death, lasted over an hour. Jayalalithaa’s niece J. Deepa also inspected the hospital with her lawyer after an order from the Commission allowed her to do so.

Mr. Parthasarathy said the purpose of the visit was to understand the layout of the hospital so as to ascertain the authenticity of the videos submitted to the panel as part of the inquiry.

“The evidence are rooms and the viewpoints to understand how the hospital is organised. We had petitioned the court to give us permission to visit the hospital. There were certain conditions and they also told us the scope of the inspection. There were 11 aspects that we inspected. The hospital administrators were forthcoming and cooperated fully,” he said.

Details sought

Lawyer N. Raja Senthoor Pandian, who represents his Sasikala, said that the spots where Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and AIADMK MP M. Thambidurai were seated were also identified. “The commission’s lawyers wanted to know where the CT scan was taken, though it was not part of the original request,” he said.

“The visit also helped me visualise how the treatment was provided. Since the Commission’s secretary asked detailed questions about the doctors from AIIMS who treated the former CM, I would appeal to the Commission to summon the doctors,” Mr. Pandian said.
