AGRA: Apart from the
Taj itself, the area around it is also set to become a spectacle for tourists. Under the smart city project, sensor-enabled lights will be installed at 520 trees around the monument’s west and east gates. According to civic body officials, the advanced lights will automatically change colour and intensity according to seasons. They will also be manually adjusted to suit different festivals and occasions.
The illumination plan is estimated to cost around Rs 5 crore. Each of the 520 lights will cost Rs 5 lakh. The Agra smart city private limited, the special purpose vehicle (SPV) constituted to look after all smart-city related works, is soon going to start tendering process in this regard.
Speaking to TOI, additional municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar said, “Advanced sensor-enabled lights will be installed on trees around the west and east gates of the monument. These lights will automatically change colour and intensity according to the season. Also, they can be adjusted to mark an occasion.” According to officials, the lights will shine very bright on a new moon, or emit a yellow radiance on foggy evenings. On an occasion such as the independence day, the lights can be made to emit hues of the Tricolour.
