PATIALA: Two women, Keithair Gilroy Misquitta (23) and Aarohi Pandit (22), fly around the world from Patiala Aviation Club on July 30. The women, who have been trained here, will be completing the journey in 90 days.
During their journey, they will fly through three continents, 23 countries, covering nearly 40,000km. The motive of the tour is to promote women empowerment and to save and educate girl child (Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao).
As a special gesture, former Union minister
Preneet Kaur flagged off the tour on Sunday at the Patiala Aviation Club. They will start their journey on Monday morning.
Preneet said the expedition will send a message across the world that Indian women are at par with their counterparts across the world. She said it was a matter of great pride that these women had been trained at the aviation club here for such a big mission and they would also start their journey from here. She congratulated the women on behalf of chief minister Amarinder Singh and the Punjab government, wishing them a successful journey.
They said during the 90-day journey they will travel to Southeast Asia, Japan, Russia,
Canada, United States,
Greenland, Iceland, Europe and Middle East countries. They said that they had been preparing for this tour for the last one month.
Keithair and Aarohi said they started training for this expedition at
Bombay Flying Club where they studied and completed their bachelor’s degree in science (aviation) with commercial pilot training.
“We have been flying together for the last four years. During the expedition, we will be flying for 4–5 hours a day and will take off only after considering the weather conditions. We thank the Patiala Aviation Club staff members who have been supporting us.”
