Indore: With change in atmospheric conditions, the city experienced a hot and humid day on Sunday as the temperature made people uncomfortable. Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Department officials said that chances of rains for the next couple of days are bleak.
“There is no such active pressure system exists neither in Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. The northern part of the country has been witnessing rains but chances of rains in our region are negligible,” the Met officials said. However, they said that the city could witness sporadic rains if the temperature rises above 31 degrees Celsius.
Till date, the City is lacking behind average rainfall as monsoon hit the city about a fortnight. The city witnessed a bout of intermittent rains for couple of days between July 20 and July 25. Maximum temperature of the city on Saturday was recorded at 29.5 degrees Celsius which was normal while the minimum temperature was recorded at 22.6 degrees Celsius which was one degree above the normal temperature.
Rainfall below average
According to Meteorological Department, the average rainfall in city till this period should be around 407.6 mm but it has stuck at 379.5 mm, about 28 mm below the average. “This year, June and July didn’t see rains and initial days of this month have the same record of being dry in last several years,” Met officials added.
Citizens troubled by dry spell
Not only the farmers, others too are troubled by the dry spell as the temperature in city is rising day by day. Abhishek Gaba, a super market owner, said, “Now it has become unbearable as the temperature has been rising again. I feel like to take a long off from work and go to some hill stations to get rid of such itchy weather.”
